A Way of Intricacy – A Meditation from Thomas Tallis for Lent 2

Thomas Tallis wrote choral pieces during the 1500’s; a period of rapid change for the Christian church and the world in general. His music is still part of the repertory of many classical and church choirs. This piece, Spem in Alium was scored for eight choirs of five singers each. An English translation of the text is:

 I have never put my hope in any other but you, God of Israel, who will be angry and yet become again gracious, and who forgives all the sins of suffering man. Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, look upon our lowliness.
